Flying to Europe Is Cheaper Than It Has Been in 3 Years

If you’ve been daydreaming of walking the stairs to Sacré-Cœur in Paris or hopping on a double-decker bus at London’s Piccadilly Circus, you’re in good company. Last year, 672 millionthis  people – half of the world’s tourists – spent time in Europe.

And in 2019, the continent is likely to remain popular as flight prices are cheaper than they have in years.

In fact, flights to Europe this spring and summer are at the lowest price point in three years. Spring flights (for March, April, and May) are currently averaging $637 round-trip, while summer tickets (for June, July, and August) are at $909, both averages lower than averages in 2018 and 2017.

For travelers looking for the ultimate deal, London tickets are averaging $782 and are “falling long term, and are likely to remain low in the short term,” said Hopper’s Patrick Surry, who says with Brexit, airlines may need to lower prices further to fill seats if there’s a drop in tourism from European Union countries. The U.S. dollar is also currently strong in the U.K. with 1 GBP equivalent to $1.30 USD.

Flexible travelers can of course find even cheaper tickets than average. If you’re looking to take advantage of the price drops and plan a European getaway, make sure to avoid these booking mistakes.
