Despite repeated complaints about fleecing of visitors, the civic body has failed to make contractors display the fee boards at all parking lots on Ferozepur Road. In violation of the norms, the parking staff commonly issue manual ticket instead of e-ticket to many visitors. The visitors have been complaining about overcharging for a long time but the civic body continued to turn a blind eye to the problem. The boards highlighting parking rates were earlier displayed at a few lots but these have now been removed too.
The MC had signed an agreement with a private contractor, Sachin Sharma, for the parking lots in 2016 and it was extended for one more year in 2017.When the agreement was signed, the contractor was asked to ensure e-ticketing and display of parking fee rates. The visitors are being charged Rs 20-30 for parking of four-wheelers for one hour against the actual fee of Rs 10 for the same duration.
Besides, Rs 10 is charged for parking a bike or scooter up to one hour against the agreed rate of Rs 5 for the same period. An advocate at the district courts, Gaganpreet Singh, said: “No steps have been taken to stop overcharging. It seems the authorities don’t want to listen to our voice. The parking fee boards have not been displayed. Moreover, the parking staff still issue manual slips to many visitors instead of e-tickets.”A visitor to the parking lot near Vishal Megamart on Ferozepur Road, Harjinder Singh, said: “I was charged Rs 10 for parking my scooter for less than 30 minutes.
The parking staff issued me a torn slip to hide the actual fee rate. No helpline number or parking fee board was displayed there. It is the responsibility of the MC to ensure display of parking fee rates. Fleecing of visitors is going on in broad daylight.”The staff at the parking lot near Ansal Plaza on Ferozepur Road claimed that the parking fee board had been stolen by rag pickers. An employee, who works for Sachin Sharma near Vishal Megamart, said they didn’t display any parking fee board.
