9 lakh stolen from hosiery trader

A city-based hosiery trader lost Rs 9 lakh to bike-borne thieves who stole a bag containing cash and a laptop from his car near the Cheema chowk on Wednesday morning. When the police were searching for the thieves, they found a bag containing over Rs 2 lakh and the laptop dumped near the cancer hospital not far from the chowk.

The victim has been identified as Shiv Kumar, a resident of Barewal. He owns a hosiery unit in Phase IV, Focal Point area. Soon after the incident, ADCP 1 Gurpreet Singh and ACP Mandeep Singh reached the spot and started investigation.

The police have got CCTV footage featuring the suspects and it is being thoroughly scanned to get clue about them.

The trader immediately got the car stopped and alighted from it to check the leakage. He hardly took a few minutes to inspect the engine. When he found no leakage, he sat back in the car. “On the way, he found the bag containing cash and the laptop missing,” he said.
