Historical sites of Punjab to be covered under beautification drive

The Punjab Government has prepared Detailed Project Reports worth 99 crores that deal with the beautification of historical sites and ensures adequate facilities for tourists and devotees. The DPR was approved in principle during the mission directorate meeting of the Union Tourism Ministry.

Mr. Navjot Singh Sidhu, the Tourism and Cultural Affairs Minister of Punjab is the first minister from the state to take part in the meeting of mission directorate. Apart from Mr. Sidhu, Secretary Tourism, Punjab Mr. Vikas Pratap, Director Mr. Shivdular Singh Dhillon and the Advisor to the minister-Mr. Angad Singh Sohi were also present in the meeting with the Joint Secretary of the Union Tourism Ministry, Mr. Suman Billa.

Disclosing details, an official spokesperson said “Due to the untiring efforts of Mr. Sidhu, the Union Government has approved the project for the religious and historical cities of Punjab. The Punjab Government prepared the Detailed Project Reports regarding the project and presented them for the first time in the mission directorate meeting for approval. These reports have been given in principle approval by the Union Ministry with partial modifications. With the in principle to these projects the religious cities of Punjab namely Sri Anandpur Sahib, Fatehgarh Sahib and Sri Chamkaur Sahib, Hussainiwala and Khatkar Kalan (Connected with Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh), Saragarhi Memorial at Ferozepur, Jallianwala Bagh at Amritsar and Kalanaur (where Mughal Emperor Akbar was coronated) would undergo transformation.”
