The MC has rejected road work carried out by a contractor after the newly re-carpeted road started peeling off at Kitchlu Nagar. Earlier, a complaint was filed about the poor condition of the road and the Chief Vigilance Officer, Department of Local Government, asked the commissioner to file a report on the matter within 10 days.
A resident, Lucky Chopra, said: “The road was re-carpeted before winter. But, it started peeling off after completion of re-carpeting work. We had sought an inquiry into the matter and requested the authorities not to release the payment to the contractor. Earlier, a complaint was made to the Local Government’s Chief Vigilance Officer. We also met the MC chief in this regard.”
Superintending Engineer HS Bhullar said the road had started peeling off due to low temperature. “The MC has rejected the work done by the contractor concerned. No payment has been released to the contractor,” he said.
Questions were raised earlier also over re-carpeting of other roads in the city after the layer started peeling off within a short period of time after completion of work.
