It is pressure time for the students of 10th and 12th standard as the board examinations are approaching. CBSE declared the examination dates for 10th and 12th standard as 21 February and 15 February respectively. The ICSE board examinations for 10th standard are starting from 22nd February. As the dates are coming near, the pressure on the students is increasing. Now it’s on the students and what they have learned, that how they take this pressure.
Studies have shown that the stress of examination and the increasing competition has lead to depression and in some major cases, suicide as well.Is the competition more important than a person’s life? Are getting good grades worth more than a precious life? There is no doubt in the face that you have to do hardwork to achieve your goals but when hardwork turns into pressure, it can be very dangerous. When asked about this, people in the age of 60s and 70s told that in their age, studies were never a burden. They did them with interest. Also, low grades were not a very big deal.
But now, the pressure of school, the pressure by parents and society is leading to depression. Not only exams, but the fear of getting a bad result leads to suicides as well. There are hundreds and thousands of suicides that take place just due to the pressure of exams and results. Some students were asked about this matter. Their names and indentity are kept hidden. One of them quoted,”When I ask my grandparents, they say that studies were very interesting.
I personally feel that the growth is less and the stress is more. The external as well as internal pressure of getting good grades is taking our childhood away from us.” Getting good marks and excelling in exams has made the life of children a conundrum.” Sometimes I don’t eat food because of the stress. I have lost weight because I am very tensed about the board examinations” the other said. There is a very thin line between working hard and working relentlessly hard. The difference should be understood. Practical knowledge shoul be encouraged which makes the study interesting. There is a quote which we all have heard,”Failure is the pillar of success” which I feel is not abided by all. People should follow this. Stop the study pressure and during these board examinations, be a support for your children or students.
