Piaggio-owned Vespa lifted the curtain on a production model of its upcoming electric scooter ‘Elettrica’ at the EICMA motorcycle show in Milan.
With a reported mileage of nearly 100 kilometres on a single charge, the battery on the Elettrica charges in four hours from either a public charging station or a home wall socket.
The Elettrica is expected to be available in European markets around 2018, according to reports.
‘The silent’ Vespa Elettrica outputs a steady 2.7bhp of power and peaks at 5.4 bhp, according to Piaggio. The ‘X’ model includes a generator along with the electric motor, reportedly doubling the range.
Powered by a lithium-ion battery with approximately 1000 recharge cycles, the Elettrica should witness anywhere between 50,000 and 70,000km range before requiring a battery change.
Two modes on the electric scooter include ‘Eco’ and ‘Power’ where the Eco mode limits the top speed to 30kmph.
The instrumentation panel on the electric scooter is a 4.3-inch TFT screen with multimedia options. It allows for pairing with a smartphone and other Bluetooth enabled devices. Notifications for calls, messages, speed, range, battery charge are displayed on the TFT screen.
Vespa Elettrica shares a similar design language with other Vespa models, and will reportedly be available in seven different colour options.
