“Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi”, a sequel to the hit 2016 film “Happy Bhag Jayegi”, has now got a release date and Punjabi singer turned actor Jassie Gill’s fans just can’t hold their excitement.
The date for this film’s is August 24 and this one will be Jassie Gill’s first ever Bollywood film, as an actor.
Actress Diana Penty, who played a runaway bride in the first part of the film, has returned for the sequel. Happy Bhag Jayegi, featuring Diana Penty, Ali Fazal and Abhay Deol, was released on August 18, 2016. The romantic comedy narrated the story of a girl named Happy, who runs away from her wedding and reaches Pakistan by mistake.
This time actress Sonakshi Sinha has also been cast for this film, whose character also runs away from her wedding, in “Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi”. According to reports, she is cast opposite Jassie Gill. In an interview Jassie revealed that the film begins from where the first movie left off, and two new characters enter – Sonakshi’s & his. After that the story moves towards the new characters. He also said that he will be seen playing a Punjabi boy who lives in China.
According to a report in DNA, Aditya Roy Kapur had been roped in for the male lead opposite Sonakshi Sinha, before the role fell in Jassie’s bag. The rort also stated that initially, Ayushmann Khurrana was approached for the role but the actor was busy shooting for Sriram Raghavan’s next directorial so couldn’t accommodate the dates.
It’s rather an interesting coincidence that Jassie is making his Bollywood debut opposite Sonakshi in Mudassar Aziz’s Happy Bhag Jayegi Returns. And the Punjabi actor-singer says he could not have asked for a better debut. “It is like double celebration for me. I loved Happy Bhag Jayegi (2016) and I got the offer to be a part of the second part. During my college days, when I was asked about my favourite actors, my answer used to be Sonakshi [Sinha] and Parineeti [Chopra]. So, when I got this opportunity, I could not stop thanking my stars,” quoted Jassie to HT.
“Feeling thrilled and proud to share this news with you guys, my first Bollywood movie ‘Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi’ is releasing on August 24,” he tweeted.
“Turns out I’m not the only ‘Happy’ around, there’s one more on the run! Lace up Sonakshi Sinha. Let’s get this started ‘Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi’. August 24,” Diana tweeted on Tuesday.
Mudassar Aziz, who helmed the first part, is back on the director’s chair for the sequel. Earlier there were reports that Mudassar Aziz, the director of the movie had started working on the script of the sequel first but stopped midway to complete Happy Bhag Jayegi.
The film will also feature Abhay Deol, Ali Fazal and Jimmy Shergill.
