Voting is an essential right of every person living in a democratic country. Every person should exercise their rights and as famous personalities, celebs have a bigger influence on encouraging people and help form their opinions. While celebs do come out and try and raise their voice on social media, you will be surprised to know that these celebs cannot legally vote in India, unless they are ready to give up their original passports to become Indian citizens!

1. Deepika Padukone

Shocking to believe, Deepika was actually born in Copenhagen, Denmark and not Bangalore, where she was raised. For this reason, she cannot take part in any voting practice in India.

2.  Sapna Pabbi

The actress who is best remembered for her work in Khamoshiyaan was born in London and then shifted to Mumbai when she got a chance to work in the TV Show Ghar Aaja Pardesi. So technically, she isn’t an Indian citizen.

3. Akshay Kumar

He might do a lot of patriotic films that make him a favourite with the audiences but that doesn’t make him an Indian, legally! His indeed is a curious case. The singer and actress who was recently seen judging the show The Stage is an American national by birth, born in New York. Hence, she cannot vote.

Katrina’s nationality is always talked about. Born to a Kashmiri father and a British mother, she was born and brought up in London and then based her career in Mumbai. While she might have got in touch with her Indian side over the years, she isn’t allowed to vote in the elections.

6. Imran Khan

This might be very surprising. While Aamir Khan, Imran’s uncle was born in India, Imran was in fact born in USA. Hence, it goes against Indian rules.

Over the year Indo Canadian actress, who is a Sikh by birth has established a name for herself in Bollywood. She is very active on social media, supporting the right causes but because she was born in Canada, she cannot legally vote here.
