A 42-year-old woman from Ludhiana died of suspected coronavirus infection at government Rajindra hospital in Patiala on Monday.
The patient suffering from acute respiratory syndrome was admitted to Patiala hospital at 1.30 am in the morning. She tested positive for coronavirus in the preliminary tests.
Patiala civil surgeon Harish Malhotra said her body has been sent to Ludhiana as per the health department guidelines.
Meanwhile, a 65-year-old Mohali resident tested positive for the coronavirus on Monday, taking the total number of COVID-19 cases to 39 in Punjab, officials said.
The man was admitted to the PGIMER hospital six days ago, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said, adding, “He was taken to the hospital after he complained of chest pain and breathlessness. Now his test report for coronavirus has come positive.”
“We are tracing all his contacts and their tests will be conducted,” he said.
Monday’s report by the Punjab government says that of 1,051 suspected cases in the state, 881 have tested negative while results of 131 are still awaited.
Punjab’s second death is a 62-year-old granthi who was believed close to the state’s first victim—a 70-year-old man who died almost two weeks ago of coronavirus after he returned from a trip to Germany and Italy.
The alarming rise in cases in the state has prompted authorities to institute a statewide curfew.
