WhatsApp Will Stop Working On These Smartphones After December 31

Messaging app Whatsapp will no longer work on certain Windows Phone and Blackberry platforms after December 31, 2017. Starting from January 1, 2018, the instant messaging service will stop its functioning on Blackberry OS, Blackberry 10 and Windows Phone 8.0.
WhatsApp has taken this decision because they don’t want to support platforms that no longer actively update for these platforms.

WhatsApp revealed this decision through a support page in which the company said: “These platforms don’t offer the kind of capabilities we need to expand our app’s features in the future. If you use one of these affected mobile devices, we recommend upgrading to a newer OS version, or to a newer Android running OS 4.0+, iPhone running iOS 7+, or Windows Phone 8.1+ so that you can continue using WhatsApp,”

However, the Facebook-owned app has confirmed that it will continue to serve Nokia S40 until December 31, 2018, and the Android 2.3.7 and older versions until February 1, 2020.

WhatsApp had earlier announced that it will stop support many of the older platforms. This means that the users will not lose the access to their WhatsApp account, but will not get any security updates or new features for the future.

“Once you have one of these devices, simply install WhatsApp and verify your phone number on the new device. Keep in mind that WhatsApp can only be activated with one phone number on one device at a time,” WhatsApp added.
